what kind of acoustic simulation ?

[Archived phorum post from squ1.com v2 by alexandre]

Hello,

I'm using Ecotect for lightning simulation, and, I'would use it to perform acoustic simulations, but, not only reverberation time, but also noise weakening and shock noises (I don't know if theses expressions are corrects in english, but in french, it is told : mesure d'affablissement, et mesure de bruit de choc).

But, I' don't find how to perform theses simulations, so, I wonder if it is possible to do it, and if that case, how

Thanks for my bad english, especially technicals terms Eye-wink

Best regards,

Alexandre

I think you did pretty well on the translation Alexandre Smiling

What I think your after though, is;
noise reduction (perhaps sound transmission) = noise weakening
impact sounds or stuructural noise = shock noises

These are very complex and difficult accoustic calculations when attempted within the context of a building design -- this is mainly because it relies very much on the nature of the construction (how, how well or how badly the design is constructed) and importantly the junction of different materials and construction elements.

Noise reduction when considering just a material or composite material is quite straight forward and quick to work out in comparison, but really not that appropriate for ECOTECT.

You may like to look at the following pages on our website, as they should talk about these topics with a bit more detail for you:

Sound Transmission

-- Masonry Wall Sections
-- Floors and Ceilings

Structural Noise
