Setting comfort values

QUESTION:

I need some information on Thermal Comfort calculations. I can obtain calculations of mean radian temperature but I can't understand how I can set:

  • clothing value
  • metabolic rate
  • humidity value

ANSWER:

For v5.20 of ECOTECT these values are set via the Selection Information panel.

The easiest way to get to these settings, is to first select an object on the zone that you want to set the values for, then go to the Selection Information panel and choose Zones from the pull-down-list at the top of the panel. This will then display all the information for the zone of the object you have selected, and right down the bottom will be a spot for Clo, Met. etc. (only if the zone is a thermal zone of course).

For v550 of ECOTECT these values have also been included in the main Zone Settings dialog box, so you will be able to set these values at either location.

hi, I have a few further questions:
Does the comfort calc use the "environmental temperatures" (which is + 1/2 Dry Bulb Temp +1/2 MRT?).

Does it then take into accoiunt humidity and air movement? If so, how? The help file only really talks about temperature, which I think is air temperature.

Can anyone recommend their favourite comfort metric that includes air temp, radiant temp, RH and air movement?

cheers
Bisho
