Hi everyone,
just wanted to confirm that the full commercial version of ecotect has been released? (I don't think it made the release date in the roadmap posted here on the forums?)
And also, has the gbxml Archicad import capability been implemented yet?
Thanks
Eamon

Release + ArchiCAD
Eamon,
Last I checked, the store was still closed.
The Beta version of Ecotect 5.50 is available for download. The public release is yet to be out. Soon we hope.
As to the ArchiCAD import capabilities, I have not yet tried it.
What I have done quite successfully is export an ArchiCAD model to .3DS, then import that into ECOTECT. After using the "Merge Coincident Triangles" features, the model came out surprisingly quite clean. Only the "glass" material needed to be reassigned for each windows.

Thanks for the reply - the
Thanks for the reply - the .3ds method works I guess, but when the time comes for me to really dive in and start using ecotect in my workflow, it would be better if I could make use of the added functionality of archicad zones - otherwise, it feels like the program is missing the point.
That brings me back to an earier quibble - the c.f.d. workflow - I hope that it works a little more smoothly in a few months - smooth as possible walkthrough detailing the necessary steps from "archicad zones" to "ecotect" to "nist fds" and back to "ecotect" via dedicated dialogue boxes would be nice. I can talk the talk, but when it comes to walking the walk, I'm not very technically minded!
Anyway thanks for the replies
By the way, are you involved with the ecotect team?
ArchiCAD
Hi Eamon,
I hear you. I am also interested in seeing what the ArchiCAD import functionality can do, but I have no idea of the steps to take. I have not seen the .pln extension in the import window, so I am not sure if it will even be a part of the standard import function.
CFD...thanks for reminding me...I really need to look into this as well for my own good. What drives me nuts is that I know it can be done...
I agree with you that some sort of Wizzad would probably be a good approach while using the CFD feature. you'll be the first to know if I can get the CFD to import and export. I am interested in using it to model air flow around building. From What I understood at one of Andrew's workshop last year, it still need some "base" air flow speed value, then from there it can derive other values, based on the geometry of the model, amongst other things I suppose.
I am no more involved with the Ecotect team as you are...I have been a user for a few years now and I really believe in it and what the squ1 is accomplishing, as well as their overall design approach philosophy. Watching Andrew do a workshop is inspiring and the team's passion for what they do just show through. Like you, I get to do some beta testing and happily send feedbacks. It means a better product in the end. I believe squ1 is unique in that regard in that they do look actively for user input for new features and functionalities. I just know Andrew and Caroline wish there was more than 24 hours in a day...
