So simple: why does my void not allow sun to penetrate?

Dear Support,

ive been working all day to figure this out but to no avail..
To explain the problem i have attached a test file which has a horrizontal plane with a void in it.
For some reason when i press cast shadows the void does not allow light to go through..what is going on?
With windows the light passes fine..

Thanks in advance for any response,

Balthazar

Correction: ECOTECT for Daylight Illumination and LEED Compliance

Maybe this helps: I also have a problem with overlapping shadows

Zone by zone my shadows work fine if i use a window instead of a void in the middle.
The problem is when i unfreeze the overlapping zones the shadows are cancelled in some areas.

I have to hand in my analysis by thursday so any help before then is really appreciated!

Thanks,

Balthazar

Weird shadows

Hi Balthazar,

I do not know what causes the void not to show its shadow - or lack of it.
I have noticed it occurs only ion the OpenGL window, not in the 3D canvas, so it may be an OpenGL issue.
It can be frustrating, even when you have the laest drivers for your graphic card...

Best,
Olivier

Has the problem where a void does not allow light to penetrate into a room been worked out? Because I am attempting to do it and it is not working for me.
