Saving Images

When saving images in Ecotect V5.6 a dialogue box pops up and after clicking OK to save the image; the image is saved along with the dialogue box.

It appears that the issue is random.

so now the cost goes up..... thanks Autodesk

Hi Raul,

This one has been difficult to replicate on my end, but I know that others have reported it happening to them. I think that one potential cause may be desktop composition in Vista where the image of the dialog atop the OpenGL window is actually cached by the Window system instead of being rendered when required. Thus, when the dialog closes and Ecotect immediately requests a capture of the drawing canvas, the Window system sees that the processor is still busy working and delays the screen update until after it processes the capture call - hence returning the cached window image which still includes the dialog.

However in the short term, you could try the following workarounds:

  • Temporarily toggle Aero’s desktop composition using the link in either the 'View >> Copy to Clipboard' menu or the 'Copy View to Clipboard' popup from the camera icon in the bottom-left corner of the main application window.
  • If that doesn’t work, or you are in XP, then the default option is to simply drag the dialog box (by it’s titlebar) off to the side so that it doesn’t obscure the drawing canvas before hitting Enter or, if you can still access it, pressing the OK button.
  • If you choose the 'Specific Size' option in the dialog, the image is actually generated off-screen so you won’t have this problem. You can enter any pixel size you require, but if it’s just for a PPT presentation then something like 1024 or 1200 should be fine.

I will look into this in more detail in a few different operating systems and hopefully find a some way of forcing a redraw or window update after the dialog closes and before the capture is called.

Hope that helps...

Kind regards,
Andrew
