Activating licences on your network

Having set up the Ecotect Network Licence Manager and the Local Licence Service on your server, the next stage involves activating your purchased licences on your server. This process is very similar to activating a desktop licence, however it is done only once on your network server.

Step-By-Step Guide

1. Run the Network Licence Manager locally

To activate network licences you must run the Network Licence Manager locally on your network licence server. Start the Network Licence Manager and make sure you can answer yes to the question; Is this computer your Network Licence Server ?

2. Start the Activation process

Choose the LICENCE SERVICE tab and click the Activate New Licence(s)... button to display the Licence Activation Wizard.

This Wizard works in a similar way to activating a desktop licence in that it generates a licence file. But instead of doing this locally for a desktop licence, it is done on the server for network licences to be served by the Local Licence Service.

3. Choose Activation Method

In the Licence Activation Wizard, choose the Activate a New Licence via the Internet option.

When you click the Next » button to continue, the software will attempt to establish a connection to the Internet -- so at this point you need to make sure your computer is online for this to work.

4. Login to the Activation Server

Next you need to login to the Square One Activation Server with the details from your order. You need the Email Address the licence is registered with, your licence password and Proof of Purchase Number (these details will have been emailed to you when you completed your purchase).

5. Allocate licences and Confirm activation

In this page the details of your purchase are displayed. The next step is to enter the number of licences you wish to allocate as network licences. This number cannot be greater than the number of remaining available licences.

For example, if you purchase 5 licences and 2 have already been activated as desktop licences, then you will only have 3 remaining licences to activate as network licences.

Once you have entered the number of licence to allocate, you must check the I confirm that this computer is the licence server item before clicking the Next button.

6. Network Licence Details

In order for other computers on your network to be able to find your network licence server you need to enter the server's private IP address (such as 192.168.1.5) at the top of this page. This will typically have been automatically entered for you in most circumstances.

By default, only computers in the same IP range as the server (192.168.1.*) will automatically be allowed to access licences. This is to allow you to control exactly who has access to your licences and prevent any unauthorised use.

If you have client workstations outside this IP range that you would like to have access, you can use the section at the bottom of this page to add extra client IP ranges. Ranges can be in the form 192.168.5.*, 192.168.5.1-128 or 192.168.2-15.*. The input box will give you interactive feedback on what is a valid number format.

Once you have entered the required IP addresses for your network, click the Next » button to generate your licence file.

7. Restart Licence Service

Once your licences have been generated, downloaded and stored locally on your network licence server, your Local Licence Service will be automaticaly restarted. This allows the Licence Service to read the new licence details and make them available to all client workstations on the network.
